Daniel Jones, quarterback for the New York Giants, faced yet another tough loss during a prime-time game, this time against the Cincinnati Bengals. Unfortunately, this defeat adds to a growing trend of poor performances by Jones in nationally televised, under-the-lights matchups.

Although Jones had been showing some decent performances recently, including a big win against Seattle in Week 5, his record in prime-time games tells a different story. With only one win in 15 starts, Jones holds the worst prime-time record for quarterbacks with at least 10 starts since 1970. Let’s break down the numbers:

Worst Prime-Time Records Since 1970 (QBs with 10+ Starts):

  • Daniel Jones: 1-14 (.071 win percentage)
  • Andy Dalton: 6-21 (.222 win percentage)
  • Jeff George: 5-17 (.227 win percentage)
  • Ken Anderson: 3-10 (.231 win percentage)

Jones’ lone win under the lights came in December 2022, when the Giants beat the Commanders 20-12. That victory was controversial, ending with a non-call on a potential pass interference that could have changed the game. Even with that win, Jones’ prime-time struggles have largely overshadowed it, especially after embarrassing losses to the Cowboys and Vikings to open the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

A History of Prime-Time Losses:

Jones’ track record in prime-time games is full of tough defeats. Some of his most notable losses include:

  • Losing by 21 points to the Patriots in 2019
  • A 40-point blowout against the Cowboys in 2023
  • A close loss to the Eagles by just 1 point in 2020

The trend continued into 2024 with a 5-point loss to the Cowboys and now a 10-point loss to the Bengals.

Prime-Time vs. Non-Prime-Time Stats:

When comparing Jones’ performance in prime-time games versus non-prime-time, the contrast is stark:

  • Prime Time: 1-14 record, 12 touchdowns to 19 interceptions
  • Non-Prime Time: 22-22-1 record, 52 touchdowns to 22 interceptions

Jones will have another chance to turn things around soon, but his prime-time curse continues to be a dark cloud over his otherwise solid performances in other games.
